The Treasure Ship #15 (Box Art)- Magnolia

Lately, I’ve been in the habit of watching a movie or some TV on DVD before I fall asleep. I hardly ever sit down during the day to watch a DVD (I only watch the occasional sporting event on regular television), so my nightly ritual has been a great way to finish up the long day. Anyways, I recently picked up season three of The Office and season six of Curb Your Enthusiasm, so I always had something great to watch before bed.

Now that I finished all of my TV on DVD, I have to resort back to my movie collection! Last night, I decided to watch Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia for a second (or third?) time. While I’m a huge fan of Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood, Magnolia will always be my favorite P.T.A. film. It’s also another example of why I hate the Academy Awards.

Not only did Magnolia not win any awards in 2000, but it wasn’t even nominated for Best Picture! While I don’t want to take anything away from American Beauty, Magnolia is a far better film than the other nominees (The Cider House Rules, The Green Mile, The Sixth Sense, and The Insider).

Which brings me to this year’s awards. P.T.A. needs to win for either Best Picture or Best Directing for There Will Be Blood. Otherwise, I’m calling shenanigans!
