The Tanooki is hiring!
Life around these parts has been pretty hectic lately. With the opening of our store, the start of a few video features, and everything else going on in our lives, there just isn’t enough time in a day to report all the news!
Starting today, we are now accepting applications for our news staff. The application process is fairly simple: submit two writing samples and a short description of yourself to apply@thetanooki.com. For the writing samples, you must write one industry related news story and then either a culture or media post (screenshots or video). Be sure to include a photo(s) for each article (bonus points for basic photo editing skills) and demonstrate at least a college-level writing ability. Writing samples should be submitted as a word document or html file, but if you already have some samples on another site, just link us to them in the email.
We encourage anybody with an interest in writing to apply, and if you submitted an application before, we would love to hear from you again! All positions at this time (including ours) are nonpaying, but we will find a way to reward hardworking staff members.
Good luck!

I am interested, but I have a few questions:
1. How often are we expected to submit stuff?
2. What sort of places are we supposed to visit to get news? Just poke around the ‘net until we find things?
I sent in an application the last time you guys were hiring, but I never received any reply whether my application arrived (I have some email troubles and my messages don’t always get sent).
Unless it’s a flat out yes or no, we generally hold applications, in case we feel the need to add more staff members at a later date without having to go through the whole process again. I will be looking over those past applications again this time as well, but if you feel your writing has improved since, feel free to re-submit.
As for how often you contribute, we generally let you have freedom with that, provided that you’re submitting enough each week that it’s worth keeping you on board. If we implement a minimum, it will be very reasonable.
Yes, just pick any recent news item and write up a post about it. Include a source with it as we do on our posts.
If there are any issues with your applications, we’ll contact you and let you correct or add to it.
I’m still a bit confused about the application. So the first piece is an actual written article, but the second is just a photo or video with a short description? I’m not too sure what you mean by a photo or video…
The second item is what we call a “culture” article. Often times, we post things that aren’t necessarily game news. It’s really up to you to find something that would interest your fellow readers, so be creative! :)
When I submitted my articles, I wasn’t even thinking about writing ability. If you’ve got a passion for Nintendo or gaming news, give yourself a shot. Passion brings out your best writing.
It’s a bit corny, but true.

Hey, just a quick question guys - are you still hiring?
Do these articles have to be strictly news stories, or can they editiorials?
News stories. While the senior staff will occasionally post some feature lenth articles, the vast majority of posts on our site are news/culture blog posts at this time.
THATS A FUNNY CAT… :0
