Mario Kart scans reveal GameCube controller and Mii support
Tired of the Brawl hype yet?
No? Either way, the latest issue of Famitsu is chock-full of Mario Kart goodness. For starters, this will be the first Mario Kart to include a mid-air trick system. Pull of a trick correctly, and your character will earn a slight speed boost. With that, I think it’s safe to assume that failing to land a trick will send your character’s face right into the pavement. Ouch.
Players looking to show off their Ricky Carmichael-esque moves online might be pleasantly surprised, as online races will feature 12 player support and what appears to be some sort of global ranking system. Players will also have the option to play as their Mii, although there is no word if this will be supported offline.
Oh, and do you see those red and green controller buttons on the bottom screen (above)? I know that I’m not the only one who wishes to have GameCube controller support for this game, so it’s comforting to see that Nintendo is entertaining this option. Aside from this latest batch of news, a few previously reported pieces of speculation were confirmed: Baby Peach and 32 tracks for racing, with half of them being remakes of older tracks.
You can check out the full scans, partial course listing, and my own little piece of speculation after the break.

Ha! That’s cool!
They didn’t include many of the old places I liked…but the new Toad Factory sounds appealing…and Moo Moo Country. An obvious sequel to Moo Moo Farm, one of my N64 day faves.
That’s only half of the stages- so there is still hope for some Rainbow Road action.
It wouldn’t be Mario Kart without Rainbow road. But the Haunted Mansion and Bowser’s Castle levels were always my favourites.
Bowser Castle in Mario Kart DS= best level. ever.
Rainbow Road and Bowser’s Castle are pretty much as guaranteed as Mario and/or Luigi Circuit. It’s funny looking back at how difficult it was for me at like age 7 on 150cc Rainbow Road on Super Mario Kart, and now how easy it is to beat these games in their entirety. This is definitely my most anticipated game of the year next to Brawl.
fo sho’. none of them have got close to the original in terms of challenge and replayability.
