RE4 kills Mega Man’s chance for Brawl? (Rumor)

Capcom has some of the strongest franchise in this business, and we all know it. From our perspective, Mega Man was a shoe-in for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. If not Mega Man, there are a whole cast of Capcom characters the development team could have chosen from. It’s a no-brainer to include a Capcom character, right? As we now know, however, there’s no sign of the Blue Bomber, Leon, or any Capcom character in the game. Why?

It seems like there may have been some issues behind the scenes. According to several insiders, Nintendo is still bitter that the GameCube-exclusive Resident Evil 4 was eventually ported to the PlayStation 2. The Big N decided not to include any Capcom representation in Brawl as a result.

For what’s become the ultimate game collaboration, you’d hope that Nintendo would be able to forget a temporary quarrel for a game that will last forever. Are you convinced this is what happened, or what?

Dude, I hope that this is a rumor, last thing Nintendo needs is to shun Capcom. They already don’t make that many titles for the DS and Wii as of now…….

Not to say I think Nintendo is right about this, assuming it’s true, but Capcom played that RE4 card terribly. They successfully managed to have a GameCube exclusive announced as a PS2 game before it came out. It would have been quite simple for Capsom to hold off on announcing the PS2 version until a few months after the Cube version launched. That way they could still have a timed-exclusive and no one would have known the PS2 version existed until the sales were pretty well set.

It was dumb marketing on Capcom’s part. Should they be shunned from Brawl? No. Does not having a Capcom character in Brawl really hurt Capcom all that much? No, not really. It just hurts us, the gamers.
