500,000 copies of Super Smash Bros. Brawl sold on Day 1

080201mariogold.jpgThis isn’t really something that should come as a surprise, but you’re probably in awe regardless. It’s one of those “can’t believe until you see it” moments.

Reports are coming in, and it looks like Dairantou Smash Brothers X (a.k.a. Super Smash Bros. Brawl) sold over 500,000 copies yesterday when it launched. That’s about 80% of the game’s initial shipment, so unless interest in the game completely died today, it’s probably already sold out.

In fact, considering that Nintendo’s first shipment of the game is a minority fraction of the total pre-orders for the game in Japan, it’s quite likely that we’ll be seeing sales patterns like this for the next few Thursdays. Here’s hoping Nintendo of America is already stocking North American versions by the millions…
