NES controller pillow makes me sleepy

Published by Christian

080127nespillow.jpg

Being a Sunday, I definitely slept in today. I actually overslept, so I was wide awake by the time I got out of bed and went off to brunch. Now? It’s 5pm, and I should probably start some of the homework I have for tomorrow. In reality, I’m probably going to go find some food, then consider taking a nap. Perhaps this pillow might me nice to have?

Somewhat makes me want to reminisce about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bedsheets I had when I was six-years-old. My parents actually probably still have those back home. Probably use them as rags now or something.

Thanks to Cookin Mama for the heads up!

Piranha Plant softie to match Mario

Published by Christian

080127pirahnaplant.jpgDid you enjoy the crochet Super Mario? Its maker, Michelle, decided to send her newest creation our way: a brand new, 14″ tall Piranha Plant softie made from scratch. It comes with hand-stitched felt spots, two floppy yarn leafs, and lucious white lips. It’s not easy to make this kinda stuff, let alone to make it with the same level of quality.

Have any of the rest of you done some homemade arts and crafts? Be sure to send them our way. Sure, Piranha Plants are a common enemy in the Mushroom Kingdom. This particular one, however, is nothing but a big softy.

Nintendo games are too difficult to compete with

Published by Christian

080127mizuguchi.jpgWe may have to wait a little longer for any type of Space Channel 5 game on the Wii… at least from the original game’s director, Tetsuya Mizuguchi. He’s interested in making games for the platform, but worried about competing with the likes of Mario and Wii Fit. Check out what he had to say in a recent interview:

In general, maybe not this game, but what do you think about making games for the Wii?

Wii is a very unique platform. I have no projects yet, but I feel it’s very unique. I’m a little bit anxious about Nintendo platforms, as Nintendo games are too strong. I’m a little bit worried about that.

Is he right? What percentage of your Wii games are published by Nintendo?

Wii enjoys 8:1 software attach rate in December

Published by Christian

080127eightgames.jpg

The Wii may have had the lowest lifetime software attach rate of all three current-gen home consoles, but that’s because Wii Sports is all the casuals need at the moment. The publishers don’t have to worry, though, because that attach rate is on the rise. The data from December’s NPD report says that an average of 8.11 Wii games were sold for every Wii console, compared to a 7.76 attach rate for Microsoft’s system and 5.04 games for every PS3.

8.11 games for every Wii sold. Do I have eight games yet, not including Wii Sports? *checks* Hm, I’ll pick up Endless Ocean and then I’ll be all caught up.

It’s Paper Mario… in card form!

Published by Christian

080127popup.jpg

My friends and I used to be really into making pop-up books back in third and fourth grade. They weren’t in color, but they were pretty damn good for homemade pop-up books, even by adult standards. Too bad I wasn’t much of a gamer at the time…

Tom Maillioux has taken pop-up cards to a place i never have: The Mushroom Kingdom. It’s not much, but what’s there is really well done, wouldn’t you say?

Target’s suggestions not quite spot-on

Published by matthew

target.jpg

I wish I could tell you that nobody actually fell for this “instant substitution,” but alas, the average consumer tends to follow any advice given by a sign. Of course, you might not fall for this, but what about those people that stumble by the bin of Bratz: The Movie and M&Ms Kart Racing, notice the $9.99 price, and say, “Wow, what a great deal!”

Yes, those people exist. Don’t Believe me? Just come with me to Best Buy the next time I’m with my mom.

Thanks for the tip, Val!

The Treasure Ship #10- Rock Band Party

Published by matthew

10.png

After a month break, I finally got back into Rock Band drumming. Now that I have graduated to expert mode for most songs, it only feels natural to consider getting real drums…

Have you ever picked up a real guitar after playing Guitar Hero, drums because of Rock Band, or even better, dancing because of Dance Dance Revolution?

Oh, and for this screen shot challenge, I need the exact title.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl updates as of January 26, 2008

Published by Christian

071124smashbox.jpgThis is the final weekend before Super Smash Bros. Brawl is released in Japan. Director Masahiro Sakurai may or may not continue revealing bits and pieces of the game afterwards, but we’ll likely know all the significant new info before next weekend. That said, it’s been a long road since these Dojo updates started on May 23rd, and even longer since the game was revealed to the public at E3 2006. That said, you can check out this final full week of new info below, and the whole list after the break.

This week’s updates include:

  • Zelda’s Final Smash (1/21)
  • Iwata Asks (1/22)
  • I choose you! Manaphy! (1/22)
  • Super Mario Bros.: Ground Theme (1/23)
  • Mushroomy Kingdom (1/23)
  • Test Battle: Tokyo vs. Kyoto (1/24)

Been waiting for a good Mario Party? Here it is!

Published by Christian

080126birthday1.jpg

I don’t know what the rest of you all did for your 6th birthday parties, but all I got was three or so hours at the local Discovery Zone with the tunnels, ball pits, arcades, etc. It was fun at the time, but looking back, there really isn’t much to remember.

Tanooki reader Serg sent photos of a Mario-themed birthday party they recently threw for their son. Ethan was turning 6-years-old at the time. Ethan got Mario invitations, a homemade Kirby piñata, a papercraft Mario cupcake display, a Yoshi egg-hunt, and possibly the best goodie-bag items ever thought up. Mario and Luigi hats? Mario scratch-and-win cards? Mario candy, stickers, and yo-yos? Kids these days are so lucky.

Huge thanks to Serg for the submission! You can check out more photos after the break.

A look at Disney’s Magic Connection test run

Published by Christian

080126disney1.jpg

So now that Disney Theme Parks are interested in integrating the Nintendo DS into their parks, what’s next? Testing it out of course! WDWMagic user SewIn2Disney’s boyfriend’s relatives were among the limited park visitors chosen to take the trial Magic Connection software for a test run. You can see some photos she took after the break, showing off how to check park maps, waiting times, ride and attraction lists and descriptions, and more!

I could go for a trip to Disney World soon… everyone loves Disney World, even if it’s been decades since you’ve watched a Disney Feature Animation. Besides, I need a new Mission: Space shirt. Mine’s faded.
