Sold Separately: Wireless Guitar Hero guitars coming in March

Published by matthew at 12:47 pm under Deals, Wii

Since the launch of Guitar Hero III this past October, I have heard one too many tales of college students and parents upset over the need to repurchase the entire Wii bundle just for a second guitar. Heck, I would have been in the same boat if I wasn’t so busy with my self-induced arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Today, Guitar Hero and Rock Band enthusiasts can finally rejoice. Starting in March, standalone Les Paul controllers will be available in stores across the US. The Wii Les Paul will carry the hefty price of $59, while the 360 and PS3 versions will set you back $69.

Good news, but these guitars are ridiculously overpriced. If I needed a guitar, I would buy the Wii bundle for $90, take out the guitar, then turn around and sell the sealed copy of Guitar Hero III on half.com. Even if I sold the game for only $40, I’m still getting a better deal than if I went the standalone route.

Or maybe I’m just stingy when it comes to my guitar peripherals.

    $60 is insane.

That’s really disappointing. 60 bucks for a plastic guitar? Get real.

    i expected the price.

i would have been happy about them finally releasing this cause i’ve been waiting to get a second guitar for a while now…

but honestly, i think i’m going to be too busy playing brawl to remember what guitar hero is… considering this thing is coming out in march too.

I won’t be getting one for several reasons, which could influence other potential buyers (except for Dragon Slaying matthew, of course), and those reasons are:
    1. If I buy Rockband and/or Guitar Hero IV I don’t want to have to many extra peripherals laying about the room.
    2. I can’t even beat Hard mode. Yes I know I suck, don’t think I don’t know that I suck.
    3. $60 could be well spent on at least 1 game, 2 used games, or whatever else.

I would buy it for $60 if it came with a Wii-remote…

The funny thing is that you can purchase a real guitar for only $30.00 more (A Squire, not great, but at least playable!).
