Don’t pass this up: Free 1-year subscription to EGM

Have I ever told you that “free” is my favorite 4-letter word? Did you also know that EGM is my favorite magazine?

Well, the fine folks over at Joystiq know how to make the world happy, or at very least, this guy. Joystiq has partnered with Ziff Davis to give away 22,000 1-year subscriptions to EGM with absolutely no strings attached (unless you live outside of the US, sorry!). I’ll give a free Treasure Ship point to the person that can give me a great reason not to take advantage of this offer…

    You are Chris Houlian, and you took a sacred pledge never to play another game besides your own custom version of “A Link to the Past.”

    Because if you love the magazine that much, you should support it by paying for the copies that you enjoy so much; especially considering the precarious nature of the traditional print-media industry when faced with competition from new-fangled cyberspace blogs such as your own?

    Do I win a point?

    That’s awesome - I wish they would send a confirmation e-mail though, so I could triple check I plugged in my info correctly.

    Ah, but what if you already have a subscription?

    You want to spend all your time reading the Tanooki, and nothing else.

    @Fausty

    While this is true, magazines make most of their money off of advertisers. Advertisers base their prices on how many subscribers a magazine has, which is why magazines fight to get you to subscribe (and why you always find deals on subscriptions).

    While it sounds like Ziff Davis is taking a hit on 22,000 free subscriptions, they will more than make up that money when advertisers realize that, “Hey, our ads will be seen by 22,000 more people. Here, please take more money from us for over the course of a year.”

    I wrote the offer of a free Treasure Ship point with the intentions of not giving one away. I really thought I had a perfect argument, but then you all made some great points.

    So…

    +1 to caocao

    I’m Canadian! Good enough reason not to take advantage of this offer. Haha, I can’t!

    Well, I’m Canadian as well, living in Canada, so I’ll just have to stick with my Nintendo Power for now. It’s a shame they aren’t opening it to Canadian residents. Free stuff = Good stuff.
