Super Mario Bros. doesn’t stand the test of time

Mario hasn’t been to the original World 1-1 neighborhood of the Mushroom Kingdom in over two decades now. Since then, what’s now known as Mushroomy Kingdom has turned into a desolate wasteland with ruins of Mario’s past. So much for nostalgia.

Oh wait, it looks like the underground remained intact. The alternate stage comes up randomly when you select Mushroomy Kingdom, though, so you’ll want to get used to the desert. Screens after the break.

    I really, really like this idea!

    This is pretty sweet, I guess Peach should increase the Toadstool tax, so that she can use them for Mushroom Kingdom upkeep…

    This is actually a really neat stage. So far, I’m thinking this is one of my favourites of the ones announced.

  • WolfeatingRaven

    This is definitly my favorite stage, its a great idea.

    Wow. Somebody give whoever came up with this stage a medal.

    As far as I’m concerned, I’ll have no troubles adjusting to the desert. This course looks absolutely genius!

    This reminds me of Super Metroid, where part of the Tourian area has decayed and run-down.

    @drktrpr1

    Very nice!

    Nice! Definitely a creative idea. I wonder if there would be levels like this from any other 8-bit platformer/adventures, apart from the old ice climbers.
