Pachter predicts one more year of Wii dominance

080121clock.jpgThe ever popular Michael Pachter, analyst for Wedbush Morgan, gives his predictions for the year in the latest issue of EGM magazine. Among those predictions, he explains that while phenomenal Wii sales will continue throughout the year, Nintendo will yield to Sony afterwards.

“I think the Wii momentum will last until the Playstation 3 is under $300, so another year.”

He specifically believes that 2008 will be Sony’s year. It’s hard to know for sure at this point, but Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, and a possible Animal Crossing MMO beg to differ. Also, production costs for the PS3 have halved since launch, but would another $100 cut really come so soon? Would Nintendo follow suit, or would they not even need to?

I don’t really understand the logic, because if price is the issue, Nintendo could easily drop the price of their console to under $150 while still making a profit…..I still don’t think that a few titles (MGS4, Grand Turismo, FF) can pull this console in the lead. The N64 had a few KILLER titles (Zelda OoT, Banjo Kazooie, Mario64) and it failed to match the PS1′s sales…

Nintendo won’t drop the price of their console. It’s impossible to find a console at $250, why drop it? Another thing is that the Playstation 3 will NEVER go under $300. Is he crazy?

I want to wear his suit, see what kind of crazy magical powers it gives me. Probably has the one from that Jackie Chan movie. Hewitt was hot. Sorry, mental rant typed out loud.

Well of course Nintendo will not drop the console if it is still hot off the shelves as of now, but if this imaginary situation happens where the POS3 gets dropped to $300, and THIS drives the Wii demand down, THEN Nintendo would just have to lower their price to raise demand back up.

That suit was pretty sweet by the way.
