Super Smash Bros. Brawl delayed until March 9th
In a perfect, delay-free world, you would have already been playing Brawl for well over a month (original release date was December 3rd, 2007). And now, with less than a month before its release, Brawl has been bumped back, again.
Gamers hoping to get their Brawl on will now have to wait until March 9th. Europeans will probably have to wait even longer, although there is still not a clear release window for Brawl in Europe.
Fans eager to check out tonight’s DOJO update were greeted with this message from Masahiro Sakurai:
Due to delays in the completion of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, we’ve had to change the release date of the game to Sunday, March 9th.
I deeply apologize to the people who have looked forward to playing the game for so long and ask that you hold on just a little longer. Thank you for your patience.
Wait, so does this mean that we’re going to have another month of updates on Sakurai’s blog? Just wait until we get into the home stretch, when Sakurai starts to update the site with topics such as lighting, textures, and sound (”Just listen to the punching sounds. So realistic!”).

That just made my heart rip.
I had a whole week off of school the week Brawl came out! It was perfect!!
Then Spring Break is 2 weeks after Brawl comes out. =/
It was also perfect on December 3, when I had an entire month off from school…
Brawl has become my new Spore. I wish I can say I care about this delay, but sadly, I just don’t care. At all.
It has to come out on a Sunday doesn’t it? Now I have to wait a day to get it from the release, is there any holiday on that day? Please say its like presidents day or SOMETHING.
i’m depressed now
At least you’ll all have money to pick up Professor Layton for that week in February now, right? :P
Once the game is in Wii and you’re playing it, you won’t even remember the delay unless of course it’s awful. However, between you and me, this game is shaping up to be everything but awful!
In fact, you will be much more excited about playing it when you do get it because of the delay. Absence makes the heart grow fonder…
Not really a problem! Now I have time to spend on Endless Ocean and No more heros, before my life is controlled by SSBB!!
Thanks Nintendo. This is just what I needed right now. :(
I can’t imagine the updates continuing once it comes out in Japan anyway
Hm…I was okay with the first delay, but to be perfectly honest, I have mixed feelings on this one. I was under the impression that development was done and the only thing left is localization and the whole legality process. Not sure how long those take, but I’m wondering if they need all the way until March 9th to do that.
I’m thinking that with this delay, there’s not enough of a time window to do really any more tech work with it, but I feel there’s too much time for what I just mentioned above.
Then again, I know dick about the whole process. I guess I should be happy that I can play No More Heroes and save my paychecks for getting a 360 and Rock Band. I just hope this doesn’t turn into another LoZ: TP fiasco (though unlike TP, I’m almost certain I won’t be disappointed with this game, especially since so much has been revealed about it).
Didn’t a dev at Kojima say that they played the game and it was finished? Or the copy he played was worthy enough for a release? I might be wrong with Kojima, but someone from a respectable developing company said that.
What I better see on the DOJO is: We delayed the game to enable voice chat so you can love (talk shit) to your friends/foes. Nothing like yelling at 12 year olds.
First delay: Sonic announced. Second delay: Screw Megaman. I want a playable, downloadable demo. It’s the only logical compensation.
Sakurai, why you do this? ;_;
DEATH TO NINTENDO
RIGHT AFTER THEY GIVE ME A COPY OF BRAWL
It’s frustrating, but I would rather have a complete and nicely polished SSBB than a nearly amazing Brawl.
I don’t mind delays anymore. I’ve stopped getting as hyped as I used to having waited for Fable, Spore, and Zelda TP among others..
