The Tanooki turns one year old!
Matthew: Today is a great day for me on so many levels. Before starting The Tanooki, I had absolutely no professional journalistic experience. In fact, before The Tanooki, I wanted to become a film editor. While that would still be a decent career, I’m fairly certain that the videogame industry has become my true calling. Whether it be as a journalist, animator on a development team, or working for G4 or a show such as Game Head, I want to stay in this industry for a long time.
But who cares about what I think. I know it sounds cheesy, but we could not be here today if it wasn’t for you guys and gals. You stuck with us through our slow times and server explosions, and we really appreciate it. We hope you stick around for another year (or five), because we have some great things planned (trade shows, here we come!). Cheers!
Christian: You know, when dozens of thousands of readers showed up to check out The Tanooki on our initial launch day, we knew we had something special here. There were some doubters, and we knew we were taking on a huge time commitment, but here we are a year later, still alive and kicking! The Tanooki isn’t going anywhere. We’re here to stay.
We’ve got a ton of things planned for this year, including a few really ambitious projects. If you’ve been with us for a while, you know we always have big goals for The Tanooki, and we’re usually quite committed to expanding what we can offer you.
Let’s celebrate a great first year, and look forward to a fantastic sophomore year!

Happy Birthday, Tanooki! I would like to spin an old yarn and tell you about the first time I discovered this site. I believe it was during my first days at my new job at the bank in the grocery store (which was precisely one year ago, I think!), where 8.5 out of the 9 hours that I worked was spent surfing the web. I discovered The Tanooki, and it was my safe haven until the bank found out and blocked the site!
I would like to think that I will still be reading the Tanooki clear into my 90s while I’m residing in a super space-age nursing home!
I remember Christian sent me a preview of two banners and asked me which one was better. I wondered for a week what it was until he finally showed me.
As time went on, I went to gonintendo less and TheTanooki more.
Here’s to many more years of The Tanooki!
I forget how exactly I found this site, but if I were a betting man I’d say it were through the Facebook groups. Either way the moment I started coming to this site not a day has gone by that I didn’t pull it up and check it out. Keep up the great work!
Amazing site and news, you are all so fantastic.
You guys are the best! Such amazing content and it’s hard for me to believe that you’ve only been around 1 year!!
I had only discovered this site about a week ago, and being one of the ambitious noobs I gotta say this site has some true potential. INCREDIBLE work, peeps.
All I can say is, keep going strong just like you say you will be!
Yep, I remember when this site first launched. I knew there was something different about it that would make it stay for awhile. It’s been too well done not to. Keep up the good work, guys. Maybe one day I can motivate myself to find some work in the gaming industry as well, whether it be financial or not.
Thank you, Tanooki, for giving me something to check everyday.
Congrats on the year, Tanooki. You’ve been on my Safari bookmarks bar for quite some time :)
Keep it up. Soon you’ll be getting invites for E3, TGS and GDC.
Happy Birthday Tanooki!!! We at niwifi.net are happy to share the in this occasion because we were in your shoes not too long ago. We know the struggles it takes to do something like this and would like to congratulate you on your hard work. The site looks great!
