Prototype Wii taken off eBay for seemingly no reason

Another Nintendo prototype auction on eBay. Not sure how I missed this, but UK eBay user funky_fruits has obtained this prototype Wii. The auction has ended without any bids, so clearly someone had a problem with such a rarity being put up for auction. It must have caused quite a stir, seeing as “several people have given their lives for this to [be] available on eBay.”

The feature list on this Wii prototype is pretty amazing, and it’s a shame that some of these didn’t make it into the final product:

  • CPU: AMD Opteron™ Quad core processor as used in Cray™ Super Computers
  • Ear & Mic connectors for tape player
  • Barmcake slot for toasting breaded goods
  • Audio Cassette option

It’s interesting to see how the Wii’s remote and blue light evolved in the design, though. At least we get something out of this informative auction. Thanks to Val for the heads up.
