Nintendo sells 3.5 million hardware units in a week?

071227worldsales1.jpgIndependent sales tracker VG Chartz has compiled worldwide info for the week ending December 22nd and revealed some amazing statistics. If accurate, Nintendo may have moved approximately 2 million Nintendo DS units, 4.3 DS software titles, 1.5 million Wii units, and 2.7 million Wii games, all in that single week. Does that include GameStop WiiOUs? Maybe, maybe not, but the total number of paper slips available was minuscule compared to that Wii total.

Five Wii and seven DS titles also took the top 12 software spots overall, with WiiSports and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games leading the way for the Wii, and Mario Party 8 and Brain Age 2 topping the DS list. Galaxy, Pokémon, and WiiFit also remained top sellers through the week.

Do you believe those numbers? I’m inclined to. What I find hard to believe, however, is that GameCube hardware sales were still high enough to bother tracking, while GameCube software sales weren’t…

I like the fact that about half of people who bought Wii Sports (aka who own a Wii) own Wii Play.
