Retirement community donates Wii to girl and stroke-victim father

071223wiigift.jpgThirteen-year-old Breanna Splawn has been spending a lot of her free time at home these days, taking care of her father after he suddenly suffered a stroke. Breanna had heard from a physical therapist that the Wii had been useful for rehabbing stroke patients, so she set out to find one. Sadly, with all the demand for a Wii these days, especially around the holidays, she was unable to find one for her and her father.

Breanna’s school class recently visited the Wind Crest retirement community, which just happens to be full of Wii-active senior citizens. After the community resources manager, Sharon Prouse, met Breanna and heard her story, Sharon promised that she’d help Breanna find a Wii. Turns out, she not only helped find one, but Sharon took it upon herself to wait in line for two hours on Black Friday at a nearby Sam’s Club. She donated the Wii to Breanna last week.

Always heartwarming to hear these kinds of stories, and I’m glad kids Breanna’s age are still finding that there are good people in the world.
