UK: Nintendo’s DS breaks record; Wii surpasses 360
Only supply constraints can stop the runaway sales train that is Nintendo. Until recently, Sony’s PS2 held the record for single-week sales in the UK, moving 184,360 PS2 units during Christmas week 2001. For the week ending November 24th, the DS Lite broke that record by selling 191,104 units. Not content with doing so, the current record of 212,584 DS Lites were sold the following week.
For those of you wondering about how the younger brother is doing, this may come as a surprise: The Wii is selling like crazy. Moving over 100,000 units in the week ending December 1st not only shot the Wii past the 360’s lifetime sales in the UK, but it also gives Nintendo of Europe more reason to get the ball rolling and release some games over there. And soon.
