Happy 20th Birthday, Mega Man!

20th.png

It has taken a great deal of will power to restrain myself from making any sort of “Mega Man is turing 20 soon!” kind of post over the past few months/weeks/days. Now that the day has finally arrived, I want to extend all the birthday wishes in the world to the Blue Bomber.

So why am I so excited? Because I grew up with Mega Man.

No really, I did. The very first game was released in Japan 20 years ago today, just a few short months after I was born. By the time the game hit US shores, I was ready to welcome the series with my open baby arms. It took another year or so, but by the time Mega Man 2 landed in my house, I was already starting my gaming career with Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda (Not meant for a two year old, so I watched my Mom play it), and of course, Mega Man.

The party doesn’t end here though, as you can expect the birthday celebration to continue on The Tanooki throughout the week. In other words, I have quite the Mega Man list for you guys.

Now, who wants cake?

I want cake! OR a Mega-gingerbread-man. Either will suffice!

    Happy Birthday Mega Man!

The years haven’t treated you well…

Actually, I only just started playing Mega Man a couple of years ago. I never played games in the NES days. I finally got my own gaming console at the end of the SNES era, and I never thought to take a look at my SNES’ older brother.. My loss.

    Super fighting robot Mega Man!

The third video game I ever played in my life was Mega Man 3, the first being the original Super Mario Bros., the second being Super Mario Bros. 3.

I was hooked after three, backtracking to two, and pushing forward to four. While I skipped five and six, I got my hands on X and I was hooked, playing the entire X series up until X7 (though I skipped X5 and X6).

Thanks to the internet I’ve been able to play some of the older games from first gen Mega Man (namely the ones I skipped). It was an excellent trip into nostalgia.

Happy birthday Blue Bomber! Save me some cake.

Yay! Megaman is awesome. I mean not quite as awesome as a few choice others, but he still wins the prize.
