Kuefler, over at GI, decided to play around with the Wii to try to find various secrets, and stumbled upon an interesting discovery… or at least, something I didn’t know about. If you’re running firmware 3.x, the Wii can be used in “Maintenance Mode” by starting up the console and then holding down (-) and (+) as you press A to continue. You’ll come up to the main menu with a notice saying that you’re running in Maintenance Mode and that the Message Board is disabled. Erm… does it do anything else?
The folks at WiiLi have been hoping they’d find anything to help them get Linux running on the Wii, but as of right now, all we know is that it disables WiiConnect24 and that you exit Maintenance Mode once you fully enter a channel. Play around, see if you find anything else! Thanks to Kuefler for the tip.
