Intel wants in on the next-generation of gaming

Intel doesn’t have any chip technology found in today’s current buffet of home video game consoles, but after seeing how much bank the other chip-makers are taking in, they’re not going to miss the opportunity again. They’re talking with all three console makers about the possibility of using Intel chips that can do a trillion commands per second, speculating on what type of console they could be used for. Intel’s chief technology officer, Justin Rattner, had the following to say:

“We imagine some future generation of [Nintendo's] Wii won’t have hand controllers. You just set up the cameras around the room and wave your hand like you’re playing tennis.”

Hmm…what if someone walks into the room while you’re playing?

Oh how cool, Intel is not going to try to land in on mine of impeccable proportions!

regardless, I hope to see some progress, but I dont really want to abandon the use of controllers. It would be kind of expensive for their type of technology that the quote proposes, wouldnt it?

“You just set up the cameras around the room and wave your hand like you’re playing tennis.”

It’s called the Eye Toy, and it was already done on the PS2.

no the eye toy was a terrible idea made to make you look stupid playing terrible mini games.

What this is talking about is being able to compute full body movements in 3D space.
