Guitar Hero III comes down with Mono; Activision sued
These days, offering to fix a problem and replace defective game discs isn’t enough. Activision is now being sued for selling a deceptive product, as Guitar Hero III’s mono sound output isn’t what is advertised on the box. Those who “would not have purchased the Guitar Hero III video game and/or paid as much for it had they known the truth about the product” are being included in the suit brought on by plaintiff Samuel Livingston of San Diego.
Since Activision has not made the sound issue known to the mass public and continues to sell the original version on store shelves, the lawsuit continues to claim that Activision is engaging in deceptive practices. Some would argue that the lawsuit is just another attempt by someone to get rich quick, while others believe that these lawsuits make it clear to publishers that we want our $50, $60, $90 games to be flawless when we get them rather than having to go through replacement processes like this one. Thoughts?
