Nintendo UK pulling Wii ads to relieve piling demand

Nintendo UK has pulled all Wii adverts across the country in order not to fuel demand for their hot new system any further beyond what they can handle. Retailers are already having trouble guaranteeing customers that they’ll be able to get a system in time for the holidays. A Nintendo spokesperson had the following to say:

“We have been running the campaign all year round, but we want to take a responsible stance this Christmas and not fuel demand.”

Since Nintendo had not made any Christmas-specific advertisements, their current campaign will resume as-is after the turn of the year. For those wondering, Nintendo DS ads should now be in place where all the Wii ads were.

Haha at first I thought this was a move to save gobs of money in unneeded ads.

Nope, why hype a console that’s nearly impossible to find? Take that same money, and put it behind the DS’ hype machine. While the DS has been pretty successful, there are ample supply of them lying around, so they figure they’ll make more money this way.

I like the way they spin their stories though. :)
