Smash Bros. site updates with Friend List

I’m going to need a collective groan from everyone on this one. Although everybody expected that the dreaded Friend Code system would be implemented in Brawl, that doesn’t make the official confirmation of this any less painful. Not only will players have to enter in a twelve digit code in order to add someone to their friends list, but we also have learned that the code will be unique to the game and will not be the same as your Wii console’s Friend Code. Hopefully, this will not initiate the trend of all major online titles having game-specific codes.

Despite the fact that the online functionality for Brawl is going to be disappointing, the game is still looking incredible. Come February, we can expect a fantastic experience overall from Brawl, but most likely not in the online department.

It may be cumbersome but at least there is an online mode! There will be random battles (as confirmed when they confirmed WiFi) and even though you won’t know who you are fighting, the odds are the people you’re playing will be better than even Level 9s. Plus, Internet forums make it easy for us to add each other’s code.

I guess I’m an optimist. You’re right though, it is inconvenient at times…

I think you’re right ApolloBoy, things aren’t as bad as they seem. It’s just disappointing to see such a great game lose so much potential..

The main reason that Nintendo’s online polices are so frustrating to me is because I am an XBox 360 owner, and I am spoiled by the top-notch online functionality that is offered through XBox Live. Nintendo has the potential to be just as good as Microsoft when it comes to online gameplay, but instead they strafe around the issue and continue to offer sub-par services.
