Unreal Engine 3 in development for the Wii

…not officially, though. Initially, Epic had said that Unreal Engine 3 was designed for higher-end platforms in mind, such as the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. The company’s Mark Rein confirmed that while they won’t be porting over the Unreal Engine 3 for use with Wii development, one of their clients is going to try and do the dirty work.

“I know one of our licensee who’s giving it a shot. It’s their own port, in the same way Ubisoft brought Unreal Engine 2 to the Wii.”

Epic has nothing against the Wii, of course. Its just that the differences between the Wii and its rivals make a full port hard to justify, in a business sense. Most developers are probably still using a lot of the GameCube development tools…

Why not, it’s about time that somebody pushes the Wii’s true horsepower to the test.
