Harrison: No DS 3.0 anytime soon

071121harrison.jpgWhile the “experts” are going around starting rumors that a second DS redesign has been completed (we all know it’s true, anyway), Nintendo’s not going to admit it. Not anytime soon anyway. Nintendo’s George Harrison responded to the rumors:

“We don’t have any imminent plans for an upgrade for the Nintendo DS. The product is still selling extremely well around the world.

“I’m not sure what his source was for it, but it’s not something you’re going to hear about anytime soon.”

We’ll see a new version eventually, but with DS Lites selling like hotcakes, it may take years. If the Micro is an indication, a DS redesign might even wait until the DS’ successor is on the market.

I think the Lite is fine as it is and they should only focus on it's successor in terms of the "DS 2" not a redesign of the current system.

People might get frustrated if they have to buy the newest DS all the time. Although it probably wouldn't be a big deal if the rumours are spot on, people could still feel satisfied with their DS lites' backwards compatibility.

Personally, I hope this doesn't come anytime soon. I need the money for games, not new hardware..

Isn't it obvious? I mean once Nintendo says that it has a new version of the DS, people will stop buying the old one and wait for the new one. But then again is that a bad thing? Apple does it all the time with its ipods, iMacs, and Macbooks all the time with excellent results.
