Smash Bros. site updates with Training Mode

This morning Sakurai has confirmed that Training mode, another feature that has been included in Smash Bros. titles for some time now will return for Brawl. From what we can see so far, it really doesn’t look like anything new has been added in to this mode that wasn’t already in Smash Bros. Melee. The basic purpose of Training Mode is the same: It allows players to practice using any of the game’s characters in a no-risk environment to help them improve their technique for their future matches.

Once again, you can manipulate various aspects of the training session, such as adding items to the stage, adjusting the behavior of your practice opponent, or changing your opponent’s starting damage counter. You also have the ability to play the game in slow motion in order to practice your timing on those match-deciding split-second moves. Basically, if you’ve tried out Training Mode in Melee, you should have a pretty good idea of what to expect for Brawl.

  • Is that a soccer ball I spy in the shot of the items spilling out? Since the only Nintendo soccer franchise that jumps to mind is Super Mario Strikers, and its balls look different, I have to assume that that soccer ball is a reference to Animal Crossing, in which characters would randomly stumble upon a spare sports ball that some villager was missing. Perhaps characters can kick this ball around?
