Aonuma interested in 3D remake of A Link to the Past
Eiji Aonuma, responsible for four entries into the Zelda series and having worked on five now, recently spoke with the Official Nintendo Magazine in the UK. In the interview, Aonuma talked about what goes through his head when developing a new Zelda title, and even what he’s starting to consider at the moment.
Ocarina of Time was the first title I worked on, and I was continuously tackling challenges every day during its development, so I think this is the title I feel I impacted the most. I believe that experience made me what I am now. I always think about what we couldn’t do and what didn’t work well in the previous game when we start a new title, but there’s no game that I would want to actually change as such. I have to say though, the first Zelda game that I played and felt potential in was Link to the Past. I’m actually very interested in what it would be like if we remade that title as a 3D game.
A 3D remake of A Link to the Past on the Wii? That’s sure to get some people excited. Aonuma isn’t sure what kind of graphical style such a game could use…it may even be one we’ve not seen in the series yet.
What might a 3D remake of A Link to the Past feel like? Ocarina of Time, perhaps?

I think I just about cried. Yep. This would be one of the coolest things ever, being that A Link to the Past is probably the greatest Zelda game ever (if not one of the best games of all time).
I honestly don’t think it would be anything like Ocarina of Time, unless you are just going to go by the stance of “All Zelda games are technically the same”, which then I couldn’t argue with you. But as far as Zelda games go, A Link to the Past is a true heir to the Zelda legacy. It encapsulates the entirety of what made the series so superior to its competition - and then some. A Link to the Past was simply adventure at its best. No Zelda game since has captured that same tang that A Link to the Past delivered. Some have come close (Ocarina of Time, Oracle of Seasons/Ages), but this is seriously the model Zelda game. If you are to make a true-3D Zelda game, this is exactly the game you need to base it off of.
Mmmmmm. Yes. YES!
Finally, a Zelda game without Gorons. Huzzah! (I love Gorons, but I need a break)
I would love it to happen.
This is what I’ve been wanting to happen I want them to remake this and the first Zelda and put them in one disc.

As long as it doesn’t interfer with the new Zelda, sure why not! I bought the Final Fantasy III remake and plan on buying the IV remake.
