Being the videogame writing, website slinging, filmmaking guy that I am, I have grown to understand hardly anything about the scientific world. With that said, I could attempt to explain just exactly how Tesla coils work, but that would end just as well as this year’s season for the Bears (not well).
All that I know is that a few guys from Baraboo, Wisconsin have hooked up a laptop to a couple of Tesla coils. Each coil is assigned to one of the MIDI channels from the laptop and the lighting responds to the signals to produce one of the most epic renditions of the Super Mario Bros. theme to date.
Apparently, the noise produced by the lighting is quite loud (duh), so we recommend turning your speakers up to the maximum volume for full effect.
For more information about the creator of the Tesla coil, Nikola Tesla, we suggest watching The Prestige. Alright, so hardly any valuable information about Nikola Tesla exists in the movie, but David Friggin’ Bowie plays Tesla.
