Frustration: Guitar Hero III’s final boss battle

Published by matthew at 2:38 am

Sure, I might have been overjoyed when I finally made it through Slayer’s “Raining Blood” this morning, but the celebration was cut short by the most challenging moment in Guitar Hero history. That’s right, the final boss battle with Lou for “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” (Lou… Lucifer… devil, get it?!) is the worst thing that has been thrown my way in the past two years of Guitar Hero rock.

“Through the Fire and Flames” and “Jordan” might be God’s joke on our fingers, but at least those songs don’t randomly throw “broken strings,” “amp overloads,” or even worse, “lefty flips,” at you. Everything works out in the end though, because I’m sure that by the time I can defeat Lou, I’ll be able to 5-star “Freebird.” Blindfolded.

You can expect my full review (with plenty of video!) on Guitar Hero III within the week, but until then, are you enjoying the game? Assuming you have been rocking for quite some time, what are your favorite (and least favorite) songs?

i’m so addicted to this game. and it’s midterms week. that’s a bad combination O_o.

i’m still a little new and i’m about half way through expert career now. which i think is still pretty good.

    love the game.

“I’m new but halfway through expert”? That doesn’t make sense…

I’M new, and I just finished medium against good old Lou. I’m having a rough time switching to hard, but again, I’d love to spend more time with it..

Great game, nothing overly spectacular compared to GH1 and GH2 though.

    Favorite songs are:

When You Were Young - The Killers

I’ll post the others tomorrow. I’m super tired.

I like My Name is Jonas and hate Anarchy in the UK not that its hard but I just don’t care for the Sex Pistols.

i enjoy playing all of the bonus songs, some of my favorites were in there for gh2, so i play these multiple times to see what i think. i enjoy don’t hold back, ruby, and she bangs the drums as of right now ^.^

Well your frustration playing the song is probably true to actually playing it in real life. That’s an odd piece to find in Guitar Hero because it is actually played using a violin, not a guitar.

I cannot see the game actually reproducing what it is like to play the piece other than throwing random things like that at you. Charlie Daniels burns the strings off of a violin every time he plays it. Other artists who have attempted to play it using other instruments such as a guitar have destroyed their guitars playing it. In fact the point of the entire song’s existence is to have the instrument destroyed after it is played.

Have fun. Hope you can beat Lou.

ha matt, well enjoy that, im still stuck on Cult of Personality on expert…unfortunately i think i may need to beat the game on hard before expert…im so close to the end though.

    Alright,
Paint it Black - Th Rolling Stones
    Paranoid - Black Sabbath
My Name is Jonas - Weezer
    Even Flow - Pearl Jam
Same Old Song and Dance - Aerosmith
    La Grange - ZZ Top
Welcome to The Jungle - Guns ‘N Roses
    Black Magic Woman - Santana
    The Metal - Tenacious D
    Knights of Cydonia - Muse
The Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson (I think..)
Hier Kommt Alex - Die Toten Hosen
She Bangs the Drums - The Stone Roses

and of course: Through the Fire and The Flames - Dragonforce

Quite the list, but they’re all great. And fun to play.

    @ Khadgar

This is very true. The song is hard enough on its own, but it DOES NOT help to have all those “battle powers” thrown at you.

Through the Fire and Flames is just a joke; when I tried it on expert for giggles I got 1%. My fav songs, despite not being able to play it on hard for some reason is F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. - I’m a TFOT fanboy.

Dude, I’m glad to being playing a Disturbed song. But it would have been cooler if they would have picked “Down With the Sickness” instead of Stricken, but then Stricken does have a fun guitar solo.

totally. what you don’t need after managing to take the skin of your fingers with songs like reign of blood and one on expert, is lou with his gay little song and gay powerups that only he can get. it actually gave me a headache the other day, that’s how stressed i am getting with it now. i don’t personally think i need to beat a computer-controlled 100% hit machine to prove I can play expert, i just completed the last section, that should be enough. gay. gay. gay. i am so angry with this game that i used to love and whoever it was that came up with this gay idea. at the very least they could have taken lefty flip out cos there is just no way you can come back from that. there’s not even a practice on that last song. gay.
