Published by Christian under Wii

Still looking for a Wii? Or maybe you’re trying to find one as a present to make you the coolest uncle ever. In either case, you might consider camping out at your local Best Buy this Sunday. Word has gotten out that Best Buy stores are getting large shipments for and holding stock until Sunday, with as many as three-hundred Wii consoles in some stores. You’ll want to camp out early - it’s a regular launch again with all this demand.

Future Shop offers Sword Stylus with Zelda DS bundle

Published by Michael under Deals, Nintendo DS

You may be looking at the prettiest and most impressive stylus & holder available for the DS. Available only at Future Shop, as of which the availability in the States is highly doubtful. However praise aside, I’m quite unimpressed that to be able to get one for myself I would have to buy a third DS. To add further incentive to buying the Zelda DS bundle however, the stylus and stand are said to be worth approximately $30! That’s almost like getting two games in one bundle, except that one of the games would look great sitting at the front of a desk, or on a shelf, or in a glass protected case! *Sigh*…

Update: In my haste to get the knowledge of this great deal out to the masses, I neglected to verify some of the information in the post. The sword stylus is actually also available outside of the DS bundle. Huzzah!

Opoona leaves Japan, looks forward to new life in North America

Published by Michael under Wii

That’s right, even though Opoona was treated like an unwanted and very smelly dog in Japan, publisher Koei has decided to release the game in North America. This should make a lot of people happy, because even though it wasn’t well received in one region, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a bad game. The RPG genre hasn’t exactly embraced the Wii yet, so fans of said genre should take a good hard look at Opoona before dismissing it.

Chocobo Mystery Dungeon trailer

Published by Michael under Videos, Wii

The Chocobo is a fascinating creature. In one instance it’s a fierce-looking and yet noble mount for the Nanten and Hokuten Order of Knights respectively, and in the next it becomes a cutesy hero in and of itself, starring in it’s own game. Remarkable! That’s to say nothing of the variety of colors it comes in, and the ability to breath fire and fly in certain circumstances as well. In any case, here’s a look at the aforementioned game, Chocobo Mystery Dungeon in all of it’s pre-rendered and in-game glory. Enjoy!

650,000 Wii consoles sold in 14 days?

Published by Christian under Sales Figures, Wii

071130wiirehouse.jpg

AP is reporting that on top of the 350,000 Wii consoles sold in the United States during the week of Thanksgiving, an additional 300,000 units flew off shelves the previous week. We get it. The Wii is selling like hot cakes. Maybe even better. But it’s nice to know that the Wii will be kissing up against monthly sales of a million units this and next month.

Smash Bros. site updates with Melee Stages

Published by Christian under Wii

While Brawl will be filled with so many new stages that you won’t get any sleep on the night of February 10th, the developers didn’t want to stop there. Today, game director Masahiro Sakurai reveals that some stages will be returning from Super Smash Bros. Melee. What better to reintroduce old stages than with the popular Hyrule Temple!

Most of the stages will be exact replicas, but don’t mind if the developers had to make a few minor changes. Most of the music will be the same as well (since Melee’s music was great as it is), but there will be a few new arrangements, such as this one of the Zelda II: Adventure of Link: Great Temple/Temple music.

Teen Passes Away While Claiming Wii Console Prize

Published by Joey under Wii

Patrick CoulterFourteen year-old Patrick Coulter recently passed away almost immediately after winning a Nintendo Wii in a raffle drawing. On the night of his death, Patrick was attending a church-related event at the stadium for the Providence Bruins hockey team.

After hearing his name called as the winner of the Wii console, the boy had a heart attack while running down to the ice to claim his prize. Patrick had suffered from a heart condition his entire life, which was the ultimate cause of his fatal heart attack.

Our hearts and our prayers go out to the Coulter family as they deal with this tragic loss.

Promotional Poster “Confirms” Assassins Creed for Wii

Published by Joey under Wii

Assassin’s Creed Wii

The guy who designed this Assassin’s Creed promo poster must know something that Ubisoft Montreal doesn’t. If you look towards the bottom of the screen, you will notice that the Wii is included in the list of consoles that the game is now available for. Clearly, this is a big mistake. Although a DS version of Assassin’s Creed has been announced for a February 2008 release, there are currently no plans to bring the title onto the Wii.

Wii Fit Pre-Orders in Japan Approach 300,000

Published by Joey under Sales Figures, Wii

Fit Graph

According to sinobi, a Japanese blogger, Japanese retailers have put in orders for almost 300,000 Wii Fit units so that they can satisfy the number of pre-orders that have been placed for the title. If this information is to be believed, then that means that Wii Fit is well on-track to beat out Super Mario Galaxy’s first week of sales within Japan.

Considering that Wii Sports is not bundled with Japanese Wii consoles, and yet has sold very well, it will be interesting to see if Fit will have the same level of appeal Sports does. Wii Fit is scheduled to be released in Japan this Saturday, December 1st.

Nintendo denies trying to create artificial demand

Published by Christian under Sales Figures, Wii

071130objection.jpg

We’ve heard time and time again that Nintendo can’t keep up with demand, but as long as the Wii keeps topping monthly sales charts in all regions of the world, we know they’re doing all they can.

Apparently, that’s not enough for some people. Wii consoles are once again going for over double their retail value on auction sites like eBay. Several media publications have accused Nintendo of trying to create artificial demand by stockpiling consoles and limiting the number of Wii units that are shipped out, then feeding reports of the auction prices and high demand for the system to newspapers. Nintendo has strongly denied these claims.

“We are certainly NOT distributing any press release to feed media with demand stories - we never have.”

The Wii led the way in October’s NPD report, selling 519,000 units for the month. Over the week of Thanksgiving, at least 350,000 were sold. I’m convinced Nintendo’s not holding systems back - are you?
