Honorable moment: Krosshair. He's that unseen Kremling in Donkey Kong 64 who takes aim at a Kong in that five-room temple in Angry Aztec, Lanky's greenhouse in Creepy Castle, and in some areas of Crystal Caves, To add to the fun, he growls that memorable, two-word command while doing that: “GET OUT.”

If you are like most players who played that game, you would had dumped piles of brown in your pants as Krosshair takes his ominous cue. But having played DK64 myself, I found that scary moment a good reason why it's my favorite.

Damn Mimi’s Transformation’s very recent but I agree it was absolutely frightening, as frightening as the ReDeads to me for being so unexpected.

jcsjapan brings up a great point, i was reading this whole list looking for when eternal darkness would be on it and possibly how many times it would be….but it wasn’t even mentioned.

I still have that issue of Nintendo Power. I don’t understand why parents got so freaked over that, it looked fake as hell.

jcsjapan: D’oh. You’re totally right. Somehow Eternal Darkness completely escaped me when I was making this list. It is easily Nintendo’s scariest game.

Dude… how did you guys forget to mention Eternal Darkness at all?! That was a Gamecube exclusive, and possibly one of the freakiest games to grace any console. Way scarier than the chomping piano, but it might be close to a tie with the 3D Metroids. THOSE things are freaky. hahaha.
