Official DS Flash Card and Virtual Console coming?

gb.jpg

From the same (trustworthy) source that brought you the MMO Animal Crossing rumor comes another rumor involving downloadable content on the Nintendo DS. EDGE magazine reports that Nintendo will release an official Flash card for the popular dual-screened handheld while simultaneously launching a DS-specific Virtual Console that will allow users to download games from the Game Boy and Game Boy Color libraries.

The move would make sense, seeing as it would make official cards more widely available and could ironically help make the efforts of game pirates a little less worthwhile (that’s right, I’m looking at you members of our Facebook DS group). In addition, it opens up the possibility for “official” homebrew games; i.e., those put onto a future WiiWare-like service.

Maybe I’ll finally get around to playing those Oracle games…

Glad to see someone’s still trying to play Metroid II.

Yeah Metroid II was a very underrated game, I loved it. I still remember pulling my hair out when I was a kid trying to hunt down those dang Metroids. I just really hope that Nintendo doesn’t crippled the options or operability of the Flash cart in fear of piracy.

agreed about the Oracle games. and i never finished Metroid II – the monochrome with no map was just too hard! i wish they’d finished the Metroid II DX. :(
