Nintendo unveils TV Tuner “lite”

Remember that old, ugly as sin TV tuner that Nintendo offered in Japan a while back? Well it looks like it went through the same makeover program that the DS went through, with similar results. Although the bunny ears would still be quite annoying, the fact that the Japanese can now watch all of their favorite programming on the go is very cool (without the brick attachment).

Unfortunately, as most of you know, North America and the rest of the world for that matter do not use 1seg digital audio/video broadcasting. Which means that this type of TV tuner would not work anywhere outside of Japan. The only real good news about this announcement is that Nintendo is exploring the potential of the DS as a multi-media device. Which means that hopefully we can expect some North America/Europe/Australia love at some point.

Bah, this could have been cool about 7 years ago. TV is so outdated now. Give me downloadable games on the go!

I was thinking downloadable TV content like Heroes or House episodes would be nice. Also, Attack of the Show and Sportsnet would be great stuff on the go.
