Unconfirmed reports are going around suggesting that the highly anticipated Super Mario Galaxy has amassed 700,000 pre-orders in Japan alone. It’s certainly in the realm of possibility. Word went around that Galaxy had over 400,000 pre-orders among all United States GameStop and EB Games stores as of mid-September. Imagine where GameStop and EB Games pre-orders might stand now, where pre-orders might stand across all US retailers, across all North American retailers… needless to say, the world wants this game.
Actually, you should be surprised if the 700k number is on the low end. The point is that Super Mario Galaxy sales are going to have a heck of a lift-off once the game arrives in November. Matt won’t have to worry about Galaxy being under-hyped anymore.
