Bungie talks Microsoft split, Wii/DS development, Halo DS
It’s official, Bungie has parted from Microsoft, at least in terms of the latter no longer holding a majority stake in the developer. While Bungie is still working on several upcoming Xbox 360 games as an independent entity, Kotaku’s Brian Crecente questioned Bungie’s Brian Jarrard on several non-Microsoft topics, including the potential Wii or DS development from Bungie and the Halo DS videos that Matt Casamassina revealed but was still doubted for.
Kotaku: With this new independence are you allowed to start playing around with developing titles for Nintendo and Sony?
Brian Jarrard: For the foreseeable future we’re focused on Microsoft platforms and the Xbox and Xbox 360 have obviously been very good to us.
Kotaku: The whole Halo on the DS rumor just doesn’t want to die, do you see that in the cards?
Brian Jarrard: This rumor has been circulating for a while and as you know we even saw some real life screens and assets this week. Ultimately it’s up to Microsoft to decide if and when they take Halo to a different platform. That particular demo was in fact created and I believe it was an unsolicited pitch a long time ago but nothing ever came of it.
So there you go. The Halo DS videos you saw were of a real project… just never officially as a Bungie/Microsoft project. Just think, if there ever is a Halo DS, Master Chief becomes “eligible” for a Smash Bros. game.
