Nintendo doesn’t want hard drive storage for games

Published by Christian under Wii

071031pokeranch.jpgIn speaking with Nintendo’s PR manager, Eric Walter, just last week, Gamasutra was able to get a few answers as to where Nintendo sees themselves at this time. One of the questions asked concerned the obvious need for a hard drive or other form of mass storage for the Wii, now that we’ve got larger NeoGeo and TurboGrafx-CD games on the Virtual Console as well as wholly original games coming via WiiWare. It’s not looking good for us packrats.

“…the way that we look at it is, we really don’t want people storing every single game they buy on their drive. When you buy a game, it’s yours forever, so you can delete it, and go back and get it at any time you want. In a way, we liken it to putting music on your iPod; you listen to it for a while, and then you get tired of it, and you pull it off, and you put some new stuff on.”

True, but at least when I don’t put something on my iPod, I still have a copy on my PC’s hard drive, if not the actual CDs themselves. Luckily, I haven’t really been filling up my Wii’s flash memory. But that doesn’t mean I don’t intend to…

Brawl listing removed from Alesia Glidewell’s website

Published by Christian under Wii

071101krystal.jpg

We’ll have to wait a little longer before Krystal is announced for Brawl. Alesia Glidewell’s website had previously listed Super Smash Bros. Brawl in the list of games she contributed voice overs for, listing Krystal, Knuckle Joe, and Zero Suit Samus. Now, however, the Brawl listing is gone, but replaced only by an unsurprisingly blank line. No comments, just a quiet removal.

So. How long until Krystal’s unveiling? I’m surprised it wasn’t bumped up to this week.

ABC and CBS Networks Cover Manhunt 2 Controversy

Published by Joey under Wii

Manhunt 2

Last night both ABC and CBS ran news segments discussing the controversy surrounding the ultra-violent Manhunt 2 that was released in the United States on Monday for the Wii and PS2. Although this title is clearly not intended for younger audiences, these networks decided to rely on sensationalism rather than pure, factual knowledge as they questioned how children would respond to the violent scenes depicted in the game. As stated in the CBS segment:

The Wii has motion-sensing controls, and therefore to stab you’re gonna mimic a stabbing motion, to swing a sledgehammer or a shovel you would do the same. Unfortunately it’s probably not something you would want to have your kids get much practice on.

Celebrate Halloween with this Pokémon Themed Treat Bag

Published by Joey under Culture

Pokemon Halloween1

In celebration of Halloween, the Pokémon Center in Osaka is offering this adorable bag that is chock-full of Pokémon inspired goodies. I have to wonder, though, how the Golbat in the background feels about Pikachu wearing one of his brethren as a Trick-or-Treat bag. Hmm….

More pictures can be found below the break!

Canned food drives have never been so exciting!

Oh wait, I lied. Nothing is more exciting than knowing that your donated food helped feed a family for a meal. So please, go hit up one of your local canned food drives this holiday season and donate some good food (not yams or spam).

Smash Bros. site updates with The Summit stage

Published by Christian under Wii

Now that Melee’s dreaded, scrolling Ice Climbers stage has been replaced by Rumble Falls, the Ice Climbers are represented by a more traditional stage for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. You’ll battle it out on the summit of Icicle Mountain covered with snow and…vegetables? Of course, snowy mountaintops can never handle this kind of ruckus for more than a few minutes. The entire top of the mountain will slide down and end up as an iceberg at sea. Of course, it will begin to sink under the weight of all the polar bears. As it does, be careful of giant fish that will jump out and bite at you!

Boo! The scariest moments in Nintendo history

Published by Drew under Tanooki, The List

banner1.jpg

Nintendo may have spent years building a family-friendly reputation with bright colors, non-violent gameplay and clearly-evil-but-ultimately non-threatening big bads, but that doesn’t mean that the occasional title didn’t contain a genuinely frightening scene or two. In honor of the annual celebration of all things spooky, I thought I’d take a look at what Nintendo-created images gave me a fright.

Capcom ships a million copies of a second port

Published by Christian under Wii

071030leon.jpg

When your brand new console sells over 13 million units in the first 11 months, it’s easy for a third party publisher to sell a million copies of a game like Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition. That’s exactly what’s happened, and Capcom’s swimming in green.

For a version that’s been described as the definitive version of the game, it shouldn’t be surprising how quickly the game reached seven digits. Have you picked up your copy yet?

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Little King & the Promised Land Screenshots

Published by Michael under WiiWare

We’ve got a ton of new screenshots for your viewing entertainment. Some games tend to duck under the radar every once in a while, and this seems to be the case for this game. Most likely because it is a side story designed as a different genre than the original. However, that means it’s up to us to make sure you’re still psyched for it! Apart from Pop, this is the best looking WiiWare game in development for the Wii. The service is quite young, but already we’re seeing solid support from high-profile publishers, and indie developers alike. Things are looking good.
