Wii could still see a traditional Soul Calibur game

070920soulcaliburlegends.jpgIn talking with Soul Calibur Legends producer, Jin Okubo, Siliconera’s Spencer asked about the possibility of a true Soul Calibur fighting game on the Wii. Playing through the spinoff can make fans of the series yearn for a true series sequel on the Wii, with controls similar to Bleach: Shattered Blade. Here’s what Mr. Okubo had to say:

“As far as a Bleach style fighting games, that’s a possibility. That’s not something the team specifically has in the works right now, but it’s not something that you can definitely rule out. Right now, what the team has been focusing on reproducing the players actions on screen. Right now, they are focusing on games that link the characters on screen and the player. That’s why we have a game like Soul Calibur Legends now because we feel it really links the player and the character. That’s something we feel a third person perspective game is suited towards. As far as where the [Soul Calibur] series is going to go from here it’s up in the air at this point. Obviously, it depends on how fans react to Soul Calibur Legends, but it could be going in different directions.”

Clearly, the Wii remote emphasizes getting into the game like you’re actually a part of it now instead of using the controller to issue commands. In this respect, Soul Calibur Legends should be a welcome change to the series when it arrives on the Wii. There’s no doubt, though, that fans with Wii consoles don’t want to have to have seen the last of traditional SC games.
