Nintendo say’s Metroid Dread isn’t happening

Contrary to wild speculation that Nintendo was going to reveal a nearly completed 2D Metroid title soon, Nintendo has destroyed the hearts of all but the strongest of speculators.
Nintendo is not making the 2D Metroid at this point in time.
That’s an official response from Nintendo to questioning from CVG about the status of the supposed project. The reason for the speculation comes from an area in the newly released Metroid Prime 3: Corruption where scanning something reveals this information:
Experiment status report update: Metroid project ‘Dread’ is nearing the final stages of completion.
So either the boys at Retro decided to play a cruel trick on the hearts of millions of fanboys/girls, or Nintendo is actually breeding Metroids in a facility deep within the earth, in an effort to gain further control over the planet.

Or, Retro making is making it and not Nintendo. Or, it isn’t 2D. Or, the way they said “the 2D Metroid” makes it sound like the original Metroid, which they’re obviously not making. I think you see where I’m going.
Noooooooo!!!!
There will always be loopholes, but the way that they basically threw out any notion of any 2D Metroid title being in development doesn’t leave much to argue with. But you’re right, there is a possibility of a 3D Metroid coming out. However, Retro will not be the ones making it.
