Nintendo trademarks new products.

Recent reports confirm that Nintendo of Japan has filed for trademark ownership on several new products, and has renewed their rights to the Pikmin franchise. Despite the fact that Pikmin was entirely absent from E3 2007, this news could very well mean that Pikmin 3 is in development for the Wii. (Keep your fingers crossed.) The full list of trademarks is below:

  • Mii Contest Channel
  • Nintendo Magic
  • Wii Body Controller
  • Mii Audition
  • Wii Handle
  • Pikmin
  • Soma Bringer

There has been some speculation that the Wii Body Controller could be the new name for Wii Fit’s balance board, and that the Mii Contest Channel may be the Mii popularity contest that Miyamoto mentioned a few months ago. Other than that, your guess is as good as ours as to what Nintendo is planing for these titles. What do you guys think?

    Dude, Pikmin kicks A@$! It would be great to get a DS or Wii version. Both consoles are perfectly suited for this IP with touch or wii remote.

    Who knows what Nintendo will do with Pikmin. There is by no means any form of confirmation for a future Wii Pikmin game. All we know for sure is that Nintendo legally owns the name "Pikmin" for several more years.

    Whether this ownership will lead to a new Wii or DS game (or anything at all) is not known. We'll just have to wait and see what happens! :)

    maybe the wii handle is supposed to be the thing that is supposed to fit onto the back of the classic controller and hold the wii remote to it so that you don't have to lay it on your lap or something...
