Future Wii consoles could come from Vietnam

070904saigon.jpgFoxconn Electronics, currently responsible for the manufacturing of significant portion of Wii consoles on the market and in homes, will be expanding its production facilities outside of China. Terry Gou, CEO of the Taipei-based company, apparently reached a deal with Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment to invest a total US$5 billion in new technology and electronic production projects. Foxconn as a whole has also invested in the building of two new manufacturing plants in the Que Vo Industrial Zone and hired about 500 local recent university graduates to work for the company.

Foxconn is currently known as a manufacturer for Apple’s iPhone and Nintendo’s Wii console. Foxconn Electronics is also the world’s largest contractor for electronics at the present time. They will join several companies looking to expand their current Chinese operations into Vietnam.
