Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition selling faster than GC original
Resident Evil 4 was one of the most anticipated new titles ever for the Nintendo GameCube when it launched in early 2005. In the United States alone, the game sold over half a million copies as of mid-2005 reports.
When Capcom announced a Wii port of the game as a budget title for release in June, many saw it as just that – a budget-priced Wii-port. Reviews of the Wii version, however, proclaimed the Wii version as the definitive release of Resident Evil 4. Now, barely two months after the game’s release (three months in Japan), Capcom has reported that 750,000 copies of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition have been shipped to retailers worldwide to keep up with demand for the game. With most of those sales expected to come from North America, the Wii version looks to be moving off shelves more than twice as fast as the original.
It’s been almost 3 years since the original release, so either the GameCube was dead by 2005 or the Wii version is really that amazing. Have you picked it up yet?
