WiiFit socks given away at Leipzig

Published by Christian

070826socks.jpg

Some visitors to the Leipzig Games Convention last week, like Philippe Erieau and Joachim S. Müller, got a chance to try out WiiFit. A growing number of people walk around in flip flops and sandals these days, though, and Nintendo doesn’t want visitors jumping around on the Wii Balance Board with their bare feet. The solution? Give away swag! Nintendo seems to have given out WiiFit socks to select visitors to their booth, and as of right now, hundreds of you want them.

All the Small Things: Chipmunks head to Wii, DS

Published by Christian

070826alvin.jpgFollowing previous rumors that Alvin would be getting some new games later this year, we get official word that he, Simon, and Theodore will be coming to the Wii and Nintendo DS this December. Brash Entertainment will be bringing the new rhythm/music game to the most popular platforms to coincide with the upcoming Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. Players will get to enjoy a Guitar Hero-like gameplay as the trio makes their way from dances and proms, to arenas and forest stadiums, all the way up to Rockathonapalooza.

Among the forty-ish tracks spanning several decades will be Blink 182’s “All The Small Things,” Run DMC’s “It’s Tricky” and REM’s “Shiny Happy People” all covered by Alvin and the Chipmunks. The game will be released on December 4th, with the movie to follow ten days afterwards. I’m sure you won’t be busy with any other games that week.

Thank you Mario! But our princess is in another dorm!

Published by Christian

070826dorm4.jpg

College is a crucial time in molding the social lives and behaviors of young people. Or, in this case, it can create the lack of a social life. This is definitely one way of collectively labeling an entire floor as “geeks,” albeit in the most awesome way possible. Too bad these college dorm RAs can’t cover up the walls completely and really make you feel as if you’re traveling through plumbing pipes to get through to rooms, or going through Hyrule Castle.

…or can they? Send us your Nintendo-themed dorms!

Fire Emblem Wii given official English title

Published by Christian

070826radiantdawn.jpgVarious sources are reporting that when Fire Emblem: Akatsuki no Megami comes to North America this fall, it will be titled Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. The game takes place three years after the events in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for the GameCube, in which Ike must lead the Greil Mercenaries across the continent of Tellius in order to help Princess Elincia save the kingdom of Crimea against the oppression of King Ashnard and the Daein forces.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn joins several returning cast members three years after the events of the previous game. Daein is now under the rule and oppression of the Begnion Empire, and Crimean conspirators are attempting to overthrow Queen Elincia. The Laguz return as well as Sothe, Ike, and company make their way into the heart of Begnion and to the goddess atop the Guiding Tower.

While Fire Emblem games are generally grouped into duologies, Radiant Dawn will complete the first duology in the series for Western gamers, despite being the tenth game in the series overall. Fire Emblem for the Game Boy Advance was supposed to be a prequel to the previously released Fire Emblem: F?in no Tsurugi (aka Sword of Seals), but the game was never released on the Game Boy Advance anywhere outside of Japan. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn ships across North America starting November 5th.

Smash Bros. Brawl using Havok physics engine?

Published by Michael

This just seems kind of wrong. I’ve never been a big fan of rag doll type physics, it makes the characters look just like the name implies, stuffed dolls. Now while the game is definitely listed on Havok’s site, I can’t help but notice that Guitar Hero III is also listed. So take a medium sized grain of salt with this “news”. Smash Bros. Brawl will probably be using one of the other products that Havok offers. In fact, take a look at the statement right above the list of games:

The following game titles on current and next-generation Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation®3 platforms will be released utilizing Havok products.

Rumors say next Kingdom Hearts to be Wii-exclusive

Published by Christian

070826kingdomhearts.jpgWord on the street for a while has been that Kingdom Hearts III will come to the Wii. Coupled with the fact that all previous KH games and spinoffs have exclusive to their respective platforms, it’s no surprise that many are expecting KHIII to be announced as a Wii exclusive. What might be a surprise is that rumors say the game will be announced as early as next month.

Several sites are reporting that Square Enix will be officially revealing plans to bring the Kingdom Hearts series to the Wii at the annual Tokyo Game Show in September. While Nintendo specifically will not be at the show, several third party Nintendo DS and Wii games are expected to be exhibited, and a potential KH game would make the TGS lineup even sweeter for Nintendo fans.

At this point, however, these reports are still rumors, and should be treated as such.

Nintendo looking into Wii game demos in the future?

Published by Christian

070825wiidemo.jpg

The picture above is of part of a Nintendo Power sweepstakes questionnaire. Those of you that can read may notice that Nintendo appears to be considering giving Wii owners demos of the games that they might like to buy. If enough of you respond correctly, we might end up seeing select Wii game demos available for little to no cost and downloadable through WiiConnect24.

There’s obviously no indication as to exactly how the demos would be distributed, as it’s only a reader survey. Still, if Nintendo isn’t just going to give away free demos to anyone and everyone, I’d like to think that my growing number of registered games is good for something, right?

NiGHTS box art “revealed” and online “confirmed”

Published by Christian

Chris Kohler over at Game|Life points out that SEGA has just revealed the final box art for the upcoming Wii game, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams. The art itself is beautiful, showing off NiGHTS flying against a moonlit background with a magical glow. Those looking forward to the game might be interested in the fact that the box also confirms some type of online, though exactly what kind of online play is unknown at this time. We’ll have to wait for the game’s release to find out - still unspecified sometime this fall.

070825nightsbox.jpg

This box art revelation seems to have been making rounds around the internet the past few days, though we’ve seen it before. As I’ve pointed out before, clean box art that shows off a new (yet clearly official) character render is almost a sure sign that you’re looking at official box art…a month before everyone else.

Civilization Revolution coming to DS in Spring, Wii next Fall

Published by Christian

070825civrev.jpgSid Meier’s Civilization Revolution is headed to all three current-gen consoles as well as the Nintendo DS. Firaxis showed the game off at Leipzig’s Games Convention this past week, unfortunately bringing bad news for Wii owners looking forward to the game. While 360, PS3, and DS owners will be able to get their hands on Civilization Revolution by this coming Spring, Wii owners will have to wait until next Fall at the earliest to get their hands on the game.

The fact that no preview of the Wii version was available at Leipzig possibly indicates that the delay of the Wii version could be due to revamping the control scheme and interface for the Wii remote. They know how much we love games ported to the Wii with waggle tacked on, so this should be good.
