Line Rider born from Gamasutra article

070810linerider.jpgIt’s no secret that Line Rider, coming soon to the Nintendo DS and Wii platforms, has become an internet phenomenon. Interestingly enough, the creator, Slovenian Bostjan Cadez, was an art major and didn’t really know anything about physics. Here’s an excerpt from this month’s issue of Games for Windows magazine:

“I knew it needed physics to be interesting,” recalls Cadez. But he was an art student, not a physics major. So in the time-honored tradition of artists throughout history, he looked for something to copy. He found it in an article on simplified physics at Gamasutra.com, a website that focuses on the developer side of the industry. “The person who wrote the article explained everything with pseudo-code – really simple code,” he explains. “When I found it, I was thrilled.” Armed with physics code, he added the sledder to the drawing tools, and Line Rider was born.

The Gamasutra article in question is likely the one linked here. It would be interesting to find out what Thomas Jakobsen thinks about all of this.
