So it turns out it was more than just maintenance. Nintendo has changed a bunch of different things to make the overall system run smoother in the latest firmware upgrade. (We’re at 3.0 now)
The Wii Shop Channel has been reworked and now includes a new welcome screen featuring four recommended titles as opposed to just listing the newly released games. Once inside the Shop Channel you are shown a list of popular titles, a genre category, a category that lists titles by their original publisher, and finally an option to search specific titles.
There is also a digital clock in the Wii menu, and the Forecast Channel button now displays the current weather so that you don’t have to actually go into it. The message board now has a “Today’s Accomplishments” message that shows you what you’ve played, and your address book entries can now be moved around with the Wiimote to help organize your contacts.
That’s a pretty substantial upgrade, its nice to have the clock right in the Wii Menu, and I’m certainly looking forward to checking out the redesigned Shop Channel.
