Virtual Console Releases for 8/6/07- Yay or Nay?

Published by matthew at 9:55 pm under Virtual Console

After a short break, Yay or Nay returns! This week is an especially stellar week in Virtual Console land, so we will celebrate by testing out a new format for the Yay or Nay. Instead of paragraphs upon paragraphs of pointless banter, I’m going to try my best to make this a concise, yet informative, Yay or Nay. This week we are taking a look at Wave Race 64, Adventures of Lolo, and Galaga ‘90.

Wave Race 64

Nintendo surprised me this morning with the release of Wave Race 64, but then I took a walk outside and it all made sense. It’s hot and humid in Chicago, so why not cool off with a few laps around the always wet and wild world of Wave Race.

Back in January, I said that Mario Kart 64 would be the best racer on the Virtual Console for quite some time. Well, that time has come. Wave Race 64 is now the superior Virtual Console racer, at least until summer ends.

Final Opinion: Yay

Whoa, watch yourself, you almost tripped! Jump over the break for some more Yay or Nay action.

Adventures of Lolo

For some reason or another, I first played Adventures of Lolo when I was 4. Sure, I probably failed at the whole puzzle solving aspect, but I remember one thing very clearly: those Medusas scared the living hell out of me. medusa.jpgEverytime you cross a Medusa’s path, it not only kills you instantly, but it makes a deafening “WHOOSHZZAAP!!!!!” that made me scream out loud whenever it happened.

Aside from deadly Medusas, the Lolo series has always been one of my top puzzle games of all time. It’s definitely worth a try if you haven’t played it yet, especially considering the lack of puzzle games on the Virtual Console.

Final Opinion: Yay

Galaga ‘90

I’ll make this one short, it’s freakin’ Galaga. If you already purchased the NES version that was released in April, then pass on this one. Otherwise, it’s completely up to your personal taste to determine which version to buy.

If you are yearning for that 1981 retro arcade touch, then by all means you should jump on the NES version (and for 100 points cheaper!). If you are feeling feisty and in need of slightly updated graphics, then Galaga ‘90 is your game.

Either way, everybody deserves at least one version of Galaga.

Final Opinion: Yay

Well that’s it for this week folks. Should I stick with the concise format (with videos!), or do you guys prefer the long paragraphs of randomness. Let me know!
