Lollapalooza is in Chicago for their 3-day festival, but this guy couldn’t care less. Why is that you ask?
Well, today I decided to take a little day trip to Indianapolis to catch Queens of the Stone Age on their “Duluth tour.”
The mini-tour of sorts doesn’t stop at Chicago, but I really needed to get my rocking and rolling on, so I guess this was the best option. I’ve seen the band three times before this show, but this one absolutely blew the other shows away.
I could go on for hours about how great the show was, but let me just say that it sucked at first. We were in the first three rows, which was cool, but we got sandwiched in between three guys that were at least 300 lbs. Yeah, not a good time when the guy tries to thrash me aside in his feeble attempt at getting in front of me. Once I distanced myself from the three Ving Rhames-sized guys, it was nice not having to fight for my life anymore.
For the first time ever, I could say that I was completely satisfied with all of the songs they played. Usually I find a way to groan about a band not playing a song I wanted to hear, but not tonight. Oh no, definitely not tonight. Here is a short list of the songs they played, but I’m sure I’m forgetting a few.
- Regular John
- If Only
- Burn the Witch
- Little Sister
- Go With the Flow (featured in Rock Band)
- No One Knows (featured in the first Guitar Hero)
- Do it Again
- Era Vulgaris
- Sick, Sick, Sick
- Misfit Love
- Battery Acid
- Make it Wit Chu
- 3′s and 7′s (featured in Guitar Hero III)
- The Fun Machine Took A Poop And Died (not poop)
- The Feel Good Hit of the Summer!
and…
I waited for four years to hear the last song live. It was well worth the wait. In the middle of the song, Josh Homme (lead singer) went on a rant about how heroin is the worst drug to take. Then he made fun of heroin junkies for a few minutes. It was hilarious to hear at a concert (in the middle of a song), but I guess you just had to be there….
Enough of my ranting. I just drove for four hours after the show and I’m dead tired. This is the first thing I did since I walked in, but now it’s time for the Matt machine to go to sleep. I’ll resume my normal updates once I get those Zs that I’ve been lacking. Oh, and friggin’ Barry Bonds hit his home run on the first game that I failed to watch in a week. I don’t know why I’m mad about that, since I don’t even like Barry Bonds. I just wanted to see the record!
