Pachter says to expect a new Wii in 2009
In an e-mail to GamePro, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes that Nintendo will go ahead and release a brand new Wii console in 2009, caving in and giving fans high definition gaming before the tradition 5-year life cycle is up.
“Consumers may hope for improved graphics, and my guess is that Nintendo will comply. In two or three years, commodity prices for graphics processors and CPUs may decline to the point that a High Definition Wii could be introduced. If so, Nintendo will likely introduce one.”
It still remains to be seen whether or not the tens or hundreds of millions more polygons the 360 or PS3 would be able to push by them will even be distinguishable to casual gamers, and whether or not they’re really care if the digital car they’re driving is in 480p or 1080i… at least before 2011.
