A little bit of Sunday chat: Video game music

There’s really nothing to report on right now… or at least nothing that I’ve caught. It’s been a while since I posted an update, though, so I just wanted to make sure you’re all still around! I myself will be around for the next two days… hopefully we’ll get up the application page (which is mostly done), so we can add someone to our news team before I disappear for ten days.

Hey, look at that! We have a comment system! Let’s put it to good use a little more often, hm? In fact, let’s do it right now.

There are a lot of music events going on now that it’s the end of summer. Or maybe that’s just around here. Anyway, we know video games are full of music, and some game composers put a lot more effort into their work than other. I know I’ve got my own favorites, but I’m curious. What are some of your favorite game songs or themes of all-time? Do you like original compositions, or licensed music? Should all console games allow custom soundtracks, or just certain ones like sports and racing? Let us know in the comments!

my favourite theme would have to be mystic forest from ff6. such a good song. and it comes at such a wierd point in the game too.. right before the phantom train.

i think that being able to change the music in game only works for some games though, its just like a movie. sports games or sandbox type games can really use any music that you want to listen to because it’s a game that is based on creativity.

i think the reason people don’t post as often is because their comments are generally lost after a day, because of the amount of posting that goes on. maybe if there was a way to find old posts easier? i’m not sure what the solution is, but as more people come to the site, the comments will pick up.

I post on comments semi-regularly, but I seem to be one of the few who post in both the forums and news sections.

Anyways, the Brinstar 1 theme from Super Metroid is one of my faves.
