Capcom bringing original downloads to Wii
Keiji Inafune, the Capcom mind behind Mega Man, spoke recently about the Wii and it’s downloadable games services. The Magic Box doesn’t have the original interview, but it seems that while he mentions the Virtual Console, it’s likely that he referring more to the upcoming WiiWare service.
Inafune personally feels that it’s more economic for developers to make 2D games for the downloadable service, since they lack the appeal to justify selling them on store shelves. Coincidentally, Capcom is expected to announce brand new and original titles for the Wii’s download service later this year. Also, while Capcom eagerly released a Wii version of their Resident Evil 4 game originally released on the GameCube, Inafune claims that Capcom doesn’t have plans to port Viewtiful Joe or Okami over to the Wii at this point.
That’s not to say it couldn’t happen. Inafune stated earlier in the week that an Okami port has crossed his mind, but that the process isn’t quite that simple. Thanks to Rocksteady for the heads up!
