Some sites seem to be picking up on this as actual news (why? I don’t know), and before we start getting a flood of submissions telling us that there’s a secret Blu-ray enabled Wii that was unexpectedly “found” at Nintendo, we’re going to set the record straight with you, our readers.
There is NO Blu-ray enabled Wii in the works.
The recent speculation stems from a forum post at Sarcastic Gamer, saying that a visitor to Nintendo’s R&D facilities was looking for the bathroom, and instead found a bunch of Nintendo engineers watching a movie on the Wii. When he was supposedly noticed, the team ejected the disc, put it in the nearby Blu-ray disc case, and hid the player remote in a pocket. The forum post is clearly a humorous fake, meant for your amusement. It’s not real. Can you imagine what a Wii with a Blu-ray player would cost? Bye, bye mass market.
On the other hand, it’s nice to dream.
