David Amor, from Relentless Software, has recently given a presentation called “Making Games for Miyamoto’s Wife.” Now, I don’t have the specifics on the presentation, and I’m well aware that the article linked below is and most of the presentation was about a quiz game for the PlayStation 2.
However, the purpose of the presentation was seemingly to defend the casual games arena. Many “hardcore” gamers have become snobbish at the fact that newcomers are being invited to play video games, and that it’s because of them that companies like Nintendo are devoting time to make games that are short, easy, and look bright and colorful. Heaven forbid!
The presentation’s title stems from an earlier claim from Shigeru Miyamoto that his wife serves as a gauge to determine whether or not he has succeed in making a game fun and accessible to non-gamers.
